About Cynthia Macdonald refrigerator water hookup under sink New refrigerator water hookup. Hello, I’m replacing my old fridge with a new one that has refrigerator water hookup under sink and ice. I need to add a water supply for it. I have 2 optionsone I can add it from cabinet under the sink and go behind the dishwasher right next to sink cabinet or I can come up from the basement this is on first floor with unfinished basement right behind the fridge. What would be the best way to do it?
The sink and refrigerator would have to be on the same side of the room, and ours are not. But that still left me with the problem of our non-working ice and water dispenser. I wanted a solution that would preferably not involve tearing up our kitchen floor to run a pipe underneath, or any other similarly-major DIY construction effort.

He said in a gravity drain the air gap is to prevent the gray water from entering the icemaker if there was a drain plug. They want the nasty stuff to run on the floor before entering the icemaker. He said an air gap is not required when using a pump. What I don’t understand is how gray water is kept out of the icemaker with the high loop. Only if the loop was higher than the counter top would it prevent gray water from entering the icemaker.
That way if there was a plug in the drain it would back up and out the sink.

You can also hire a professional licensed plumber in your area to hook up the ice maker kit for you if you are not that handy. The basic ice maker kit will include the saddle valve, the roll of ice maker line which may be copper, plastic or even a heavy duty braided line. The ice maker kit will also contain a metal feral if the line is plastic so you can connect the line to an angle stop if need be. A copper water line ice maker kit will be more expensive then the ice maker kit that comes with the plastic line.
You can also shop around at your local Walmart to see if they carry an ice maker kit as well. You will need a Flathead screwdriver to attach the saddle valve to the water line.

My new refrigerator has an automatic ice maker. I need to run a water line to it. The salesperson at the appliance store sold me a kit that clamps onto a regular water pipe. Also, I have heard that hot water freezes faster than cold water. Should I connect the line to a hot water line? What is the best way to protect the floor beneath the refrigerator in case a leak happens? I’ll never forget the first week I had an automatic ice maker.
I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The slow tightrope walks from the sink to the freezer while balancing flimsy ice cube trays will be a dim memory in just a few days my friend. To insure trouble free performance for the life of the refrigerator, there are a few important things you should do when installing an automatic ice maker.

Edit Answer for another 12 minutes Tap could come off the line in the crawlspace, or off the cold water pipe serving the washer. Crawlspace solution costs a bit more for the plumber work, but does not require any drywall repair like tapping the water pipe at the washer would, assuming it has the normal wall-insert box for the two faucets. If you have exposed cold water pipe there – about 4 inches worth or more if metal or PVC or exposed connection plus an inch or so if threaded Pex or similar, then either a Tee or a hot tap small hole punched through the copper or metal pipe without even turning water off could be used to source the water, then flexible tubing through wall or flooring to behind the reefer.
In addition to through wall from behind or up from crawlspace, snaking around behind cabinets assuming type with a utility gap left behind from a water line connection below the sink is the most common approach to this. Usually only requires pulling out the bottom panel in corner cabinet and of course the under-sink cabinet bottom panel , if there is a corner between sink and reefer.

Garages Home Technology Remodeling As garages become all-around utility spaces, we’re asking more and more from them. In addition to heavy-duty work, we also use them as staging areas for muddy or wet clothing, for example. Adding plumbing becomes less of a luxury and more of a necessity. An all-purpose utility sink can keep your kitchen or bath from becoming a catch-all cleaning site.
A half-bath might also be handy, particularly if you want your garage to function as a man cave adding a urinal is not unheard of. If you’re thinking of adding a refrigerator with an icemaker, you’ll need a water line for that as well. Water heaters are commonly placed in garages. Plumbing also includes running gas lines as needed — if you’re not adding a new line, consider bringing your current one up to code, if it isn’t already. Retrofitting a garage for plumbing is a challenge best handled by a pro unless you are a seasoned DIYer.
Water lines can be run through the walls, but drain lines have to be taken through the floor. That involves cutting the garage floor to allow for the pipes if the work is being done on an existing foundation.

Push Connect Fittings Type of Plumbing Connections Next, decide what type of tools you will need to get the job done, and it should depend on the type of connections that you will be using. If you will be soldering your joints to copper pipe, you’ll need a lot more material. If soldering, you will be soldering copper pipe straight up to the fridge eliminating a large chance of leakage that most other types of connections bow to eventually. If you are not soldering your joints, you will be using compression fittings, or the push-on fittings that connect directly to the copper supply piping.
With push-on fitting you will copy the route of soldering, and bring your copper pipe right up to the fridge. Compression fittings will utilize a saddle valve off of a copper pipe source make sure it is a the cold water source and bring water to the fridge with a flex line. This flex line can be copper, or plastic like the ones that come in a refrigerator water installation kit – these can be picked up at the hardware store, and they should have everything you need including the saddle valve.

Plastic Icemaker Line If your refrigerator is equipped with an automatic ice maker, you will need to run a water line to the refrigerator before you can use the ice maker. If you are replacing an old refrigerator with an ice maker, you simply disconnect the copper tubing from the old refrigerator and connect it to the new refrigerator.
This will provide water to the ice maker, so it has the water it needs to make ice.
TIP: Wayne adds, “Most ice maker kits come with plastic tubing and it is good to use, especially where there is a water softener installed. Make sure to install an in-line filter for the ice maker to avoid problems with the refrigerator.”.

This allowed us to run the plumbing inside the subfloor to insulate it due to where our house will be placed very cold climate! Reference this post for more info on subfloor plumbing! We used 2″ PVC for our main waste lines. You fill up your wall cavities very quickly with plumbing. Trace all of your lines with a sharpie prior to starting install. Run all of your waste piping first due to size and slope.
We used sharkbite fittings which allowed us to simply cut the PEX pipe to the appropriate length and push it into a fitting. We drilled holes in all of the studs that the PEX needed to run through. We kept the holes in the middle of the studs. We then put nail plates on the studs for protection so we wouldn’t puncture the pipe when installing the interior siding.
You also need to take into consideration where the service entry for water will be on your home.
